Although these glasses are still in the prototype phase and aren&#8217;t ready to hit the market, they have generated high expectations in the tech industry due to their great innovative potential. Unlike bulky virtual reality (VR) headsets, Orion looks more like a pair of conventional glasses: much lighter, with a modern design, and a variety of interactive features.    <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Orion Glasses: In the prototype phase<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, Meta&#8217;s Orion glasses are still in the prototype phase and have not yet gone on sale. Although Meta already has a presence in the smart glasses market thanks to its partnership with Ray-Ban\u2014which offers glasses equipped with cameras and speakers that allow users to take photos, record videos, and listen to music\u2014the true revolution Meta aims to bring about will come through Orion.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meta&#8217;s goal is for Orion to become a hands-free mobile computer capable of rivaling smartphones as the primary device for communicating and interacting online. If smart glasses become commonplace and part of everyday life, Meta could position itself as a major player in this new industry, reducing its reliance on competitors like Apple and Google to deliver its products to consumers.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As Andrew Bosworth, Meta\u2019s CTO, noted: \u201cThese things happen slowly and then all at once.\u201d Bosworth believes that once augmented reality glasses can replace the use of an existing device, such as a smartphone, adoption could be rapid and widespread. However, Meta believes that this kind of change will take longer.    <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>User Experience: What Can the Orion Glasses Do?<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of Orion\u2019s major new features is its ability to enable natural interaction. Thanks to the Orion wristband, users can select and manipulate virtual objects with a simple pinch gesture using their fingers and their gaze. Planned features for the glasses include video calls, access to social media, games, video playback, and even recipe recommendations when scanning ingredients.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Orion aims to integrate AR experiences with artificial intelligence (AI) features, and is expected to include tools such as floating windows for multitasking, AR video calls, and interactive experiences. In addition, these glasses will include AI tools already found in the Ray-Ban Meta Smart glasses, such as \u201cLook and Ask,\u201d photo memory, and real-time translation.   <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Expectations and Reality<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meta has been transparent about the current status of the Orion glasses and has continued to present them as a prototype not yet available for sale, carefully managing expectations. The company acknowledges that there are still challenges regarding the glasses\u2019 design, price, and features. Mark Zuckerberg has set three goals ahead of their launch: making them more affordable, improving the design, and optimizing the technology.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is estimated that the consumer version could hit the market in 2027, with a price tag of around $700\u2014much more expensive than Meta\u2019s current smart glasses ($299) but within the price range of an affordable smartphone or laptop. However, there is still work to be done to optimize the design, reduce its size and weight, and ensure sufficient battery life without sacrificing functionality.   <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Challenge of Design and Integration<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meta has partnered with Ray-Ban to develop an attractive and functional design. Orion is expected to draw inspiration from Ray-Ban\u2019s classic aesthetic, making them more attractive and practical for everyday use. Additionally, to adapt to different lighting conditions, Meta could incorporate interchangeable lenses so that the glasses work both indoors and outdoors.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One key issue that needs to be resolved is the overheating of the glasses with transparent frames, which reduces their battery life to just 30 minutes, compared to two or three hours for the standard version. Even so, the company is working to improve these details before the final launch.   <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Software and Connectivity Challenges<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Orion&#8217;s success will depend not only on its hardware, but also on the user experience provided by its apps. For this reason, Meta is providing prototypes to software developers so they can begin creating AR apps that work with the device. The company hopes that Orion\u2019s launch will be accompanied by a wide variety of apps and tools that justify its use and price.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In terms of connectivity, Meta wants Orion to function independently, similar to LTE-enabled smartwatches, but also to integrate with smartphones to share their data network and offer video and audio streaming capabilities. The long-term vision is that smart glasses could eventually replace cell phones, although for now their success will depend on seamless integration with these devices.   <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Is it a disruptive technology or just hype?<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meta\u2019s Orion glasses represent an ambitious effort to redefine the way we interact with technology and the world around us. While Meta\u2019s vision may open up new opportunities, questions arise about its social impact and whether there will truly be a real need for this type of device in everyday life. Social acceptance and privacy will be key issues, as will their ability to compete with other \u201cwearables\u201d such as smart headphones, which already dominate the wearable device market.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the world of marketing, if Orion lives up to its potential, it could truly change everything, creating more personalized and immersive experiences for consumers. Smart glasses have the potential to offer new forms of contextual advertising, deeper brand interactions, and, overall, a new dimension of visual and experiential communication that goes far beyond what a smartphone can offer. This could allow companies to connect with users in much more interactive and relevant ways, generating innovative business opportunities and more sophisticated marketing strategies.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meta faces the challenge of creating a product with an attractive design, competitive pricing, and features that go beyond mere technological novelty. If it succeeds, Orion could not only mark a turning point in the wearables market but also revolutionize the way marketing campaigns are conducted and brand experiences are created.
