August 6, 2024 June 20, 2024 Corporate The impact of Artificial Intelligence on design From cave paintings to the advent of “Photoshop“, through typographies and the appearance of logos. Throughout history, the art of design has evolved and adapted to new times in order to respond to the artistic needs of each era. With the irruption of Generative Artificial Intelligence and its techniques, design is undergoing an unusual revolution. New support is born, and it is invaluable. Image generation, pattern identification or task automation are some of the advantages that AI offers designers. But the landing of this technology raises a few questions: Will it be the end of designers as we know them? Is it just a passing fad? Or will it end up being implemented as just another tool? Only time has the answer. The yes but (still) no of AI and design Since its advent, AI has proven to be a powerful tool of great utility for designers. This breakthrough represents a transformation in the way visual art is created by incorporating algorithms that feed AI machine learning. However, today, it is limited to a collaboration between the artificial and the human, where Artificial Intelligence is in charge of performing routine tasks, giving designers more time for innovation or the search for new opportunities. In other words, we can conclude that Artificial Intelligence does not replace human creativity, but it does enhance it to a great extent. In this sense, applications such as Dall-E, MidJourney, Runway or Stable Diffusion are some of the “culprits” of this new panorama. What advantages does AI offer designers? Among a wide list of benefits, we will highlight the following: The creation of content based on parameters Pattern identification and the analysis of preferences and needs Virtual assistance and instant suggestion generation Automation of tasks and optimization of processes Anticipation of emerging trends A future full of possibilities is, in conclusion, the panorama that the irruption of Generative Artificial Intelligence opens to the world of design. While this tool cannot yet completely replace designers, what it does have within its reach is to open up a future with endless options. Now we just have to wait and see how far this creative-machine pairing is capable of going, what its limits are and whether it really has the capacity to achieve the truly exceptional results that many anticipate.
